Sony's PlayStation VR 2 debuted on February 22 and is expected to fail its sales goal by a large margin. IDC (via Bloomberg) thinks Sony will ship 270,000 units by March.
"People familiar" with Sony's plans told Bloomberg that the headset's debut quarter would see 2 million PlayStation VR2 sales.
IDC's Francisco Jeronimo told Bloomberg that consumers worldwide are facing higher costs of living, interest rates, and cuts.
"Most consumers don't think about VR headsets in the current economy."The Sony VR headset costs more than a PS5 system but has better technology and tools.
Analysts say Sony must cut the VR device and controllers' $549 suggested retail price to compete with Meta, which recently cut the Quest 2's price.
Except for PS5 console-exclusive Horizon Call of the Mountain, PlayStation VR 2's games catalogue is mostly from existing VR devices.
"I suspect a PSVR2 price cut will be needed to avoid a complete disaster of their new product," Jeronimo said.
